Modern life has gotten so hectic lately that most of us barely ever dedicate time to ourselves anymore, and that can be harmful to our health in the long run.
Whether you are still in school or already have a job, I bet you can agree with us that as we get older we tend to dedicate less time to leisure and tend instead to keep ourselves busy with activities that are not as much fun.
Why is leisure time important for my health?
Our brains need time for a break every once in a while, and that is where the importance of leisure lays. This time for yourself will help your mind de-stress, balance out your life, let go of the overwhelming feeling obligations may bring and even reduce depression.
Leisure activity ideas:
Finding a leisure activity that you enjoy may seem like a challenge, but all you need to do is think of something that makes you really happy and dedicate your free time to it.
There are plenty of different basic leisure activities out there for you to pick up like going to the movies, reading, playing an instrument, practising any sport, or even spending some quality time with friends or family.
However, my favourite activity and the one I recommend the most is travelling. It may seem like an expensive and time-consuming activity that may not fit into everyone’s lifestyles, but that’s not the truth at all. Travelling doesn’t mean you have to buy a plane ticket and set off to the other end of the world to visit the most exotic places and the biggest cities. Maybe you can just visit your neighbour city for an afternoon to enjoy its views, or maybe hop on a train and visit the smaller towns around yours.
Benefits of travelling:
Travelling is one of my favourite leisure activities because it not only helps me disconnect from my busy life, but it also makes me grow as a person and broadens my knowledge.
Some of the benefits of travelling I find most important are that it helps improve your social skills, release tension and stress, connect with different cultures and lifestyles, meet new people, create unforgettable memories… Overall, it is so much fun!
In a word, leisure time can help disconnect from whatever brings stress or anxiety to your life which is what makes it so important to keep a healthy mind and lifestyle.
